Social Responsibility

Social media is a relatively new platform in the technology industry. However, over the last few years, social media has allowed individuals to share ideas, facts, and opinions on any subject instantly to all who have access to the platform. Misused, this could be a dangerous thing. However, in terms of education, it could enable educators to learn and utilize new technologies or techniques with minimal effort. Social media can promote or discourage the use of technology based on the opinions and facts provided by others (Tkacová et al., 2022). This means that the ability to use a social media platform allows for technological advancements to be utilized and promoted by other teachers in real-time.                     1 Peter 3:15 states, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lor...

Security of Data in the Future

Years ago, we just had to worry about physical security. Questions like Did we lock our door, or are we going to get home before dark were on the forefront of our minds. However, we have entered into a digital era where everything has changed. The amount of data allowed on the internet has grown exponentially. This has created a new form of security that needs to be considered.                   Technology has been incorporated into almost all aspects of our lives. People have credit cards stored on their phones, allowing them to pay for items either by touch or online. We post our Social Security numbers online on multiple sites without considering who might gain access to that information.                   The danger might not be immediate. Technology hackers periodically breach large websites and can...

Digital Citizenship Responsibilites

We live in a new digital era. Everything related to technology is constantly changing. With these changes come new dangers. With limited knowledge of technology, an individual can steal a person's information, track actions, or utilize technology to bully another person anonymously (Nikolaou, 2021). It is for that reason that digital citizenship has become an invaluable tool in today's society.             Technology has provided society with a fantastic tool that has made work easier, helped us learn new things, and revolutionized the possibilities that we can achieve. However, with every tool, it must be used correctly. When social platforms first became popular, what a person posted was relatively private. Now, however, anyone with a digital device can find almost any information that has ever been posted about someone else. That is why it is es...

Digital Rights

If you walk down the street and ask if a person has a full right to privacy, most would say that they do. These people would be correct about their physical security. However, when our rights were created, we were in a non-digital age. When it comes to digital rights, it gets a lot more complicated. There is no clear explanation of our rights when it comes to digital access (Gondwe, 2023). It is widely known that everything that is done online leaves a digital footprint. This digital footprint has been hacked or illegally accessed throughout the past few decades. It's scary to know that anything you do or say on a digital device could be stored somewhere and accessed by anyone you don't want to know your information. The current law, as written, allows the general public to dictate what is perceived as the digital rights to privacy for individuals. The problem is that many people don’t understand that their perceptions of their digital rights to privacy are incorrect (Cal...

Media Fluency

The importance of digital fluency has increased due to the rapid increase in technology capability. There are two main focuses when it comes to digital fluency. The first is media consumption. This is the taking in of information. The second is media production. Media production deals with the production aspect of technology (Crockett, n.d.). Each individual's focus on digital fluency is vital to understand. First, media consumption involves the gathering and understanding of information, which requires active participation. As data is gathered, the consumer must sift through it to verify what is accurate and what isn't (Mesquita et al., 2024). Understanding the correct use of technology and recognizing those with an agenda is crucial for the validity of the information output. When false information is gathered from any number of sources, such as digital news or a blog post, it can force misinformation to be spread by the consumer (Mesquita et al., 2024). Once a person...

A little learning is a dangerous thing

Technology is on the rise. As a result, misinformation has also become a significant issue. It has never been easier than today to access information on any device and look up answers to a multitude of questions. The problem is that some of the information that we see isn’t always the most accurate. Often, we type in a question and take the first answer as the truth. A significant issue with that is that people can usually find a way to make their answer fit your question. By skewing the numbers or wording, a person can present a “fact” that is based on misinformation (Middaugh et al., 2022).  It is no different when looking at published works. A research student might examine a paper and see that it has been published, using that fact to lend it validity. Issues might arise if the student doesn’t explore the numbers or facts behind the statements being portrayed. If a research study has only a few participants, it doesn’t provide an accurate representa...
